Westhampton RVA + VCU Brandcenter
Project Holiday is a collaboration between the Westhampton Merchants Association and the Experience Design students at the VCU Brandcenter. Rebecca Floyd, producer, was inspired by the festive and visionary holiday window displays of 5th Avenue in New York City. Rebecca describes Project Holiday as “a way for the Westhampton Merchants to showcase their products, while offering our community a magical and free event for the holiday season.”
There are 28 participating businesses across Libbie, Grove and Patterson Avenues — each shop paired with a Brandcenter student. Project Holiday mirrors shows like Project Runway; it is a friendly competition for the most inspired display.
Each window has its own narrative showcasing the personalities of the store and artist. To create a cohesive body of work and celebrate the season, themes of wonder and spirit are woven throughout the designs.
Joelle Halle, one of the participating students, described the event as an opportunity for artists and business owners to come together, but also has the potential to unite the Richmond community. The ultimate goal for this project is to be an inclusive, creative and memorable holiday event for the whole neighborhood. The project will be unveiled and celebrated on the evening Friday, November 24th with wine, cider, hot chocolate, cookies, candy canes, and more.
